Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why M*Ware™?

To build and maintain a network management infrastructure is complex and expensive. Especially in a multi- technology environment, which requires convergence, and in which networks and support systems are continuously changing. M*Ware is a dedicated solution for cost effective integration and management solutions for networks and support systems.

M*Ware mediation offers multiple, advanced functions that no other integration product can claim. The results: lower implementation costs, faster time to market, and continuous cost savings due to efficient and dynamic change management. M*Ware mediation enables rapid ROI and a decreasing TCO for networks and support applications.

M*Ware Convergent Manager offers a very advanced environment to rapidly configure convergent management solutions. It can be customized faster and deeper than any competitor products. Convergent Manager can easily be expanded with new functions, or serve new networks.

M*Ware Exchange enables efficient processes between diverse work centers or service providers--all the things Value Chain Management is doing for traditional industries, but than transformed to fit the telecommunication services market.

Q. Can M*Ware Convergent Manager be used on every management layer?

M*Ware Convergent Manager offers a standard system setup on top of which a variety of management service components (M*Ware Services) can be plugged in. There are different sets of services to configure management applications on the embedded layer, the element management layer, the network layer and the service layer. Some of the services are common to all of these systems; other services were specially developed to ensure Convergent Manager can support all main functions of management right out of the box.

Q. I am running a TMN/OSI network and want to migrate to IP. Are there any M*Ware solutions that can help?

M*Ware provides many solutions that help to migrate to another technology. With M*Ware convergent Manager your existing and new network can be managed simultaneously, so that processes don’t need to be changed, and the existing interfaces can stay in place.

With M*Ware dynamic mediation, the existing bindings between network and OSSs can be reused to connect to the new network. Any changes you need to do during the migration can be performed in-house without tiresome network and OSS vendor dependency.

With M*Ware Exchange you can decide to implement an automatic information exchange between the different OSSs and support groups, before the actual migration begins. This will ensure your customers are always correctly served.

With our new G.7712 support for the embedded telecom stack (ETS), we enable a smooth migration between TMN and IP network nodes without any disastrous interruptions to the network management.

Q. How does M*Ware mediation differentiate from EAI products?

Using EAI for network integration is like using a hammer to drill a hole. There are better and more dedicated tools available.

M*Ware mediation is complementary to EAI, and focuses on network integration and its specific challenges. It combines mediation and network management application logic and provides components and features that make the special telecom protocols and information models easily accessible.

The mapping on a common information model, automated information modeling input, direct database schema generation and data persistence, are just some of these features. Read our technical differentiator white paper to understand this in more detail.

Q. What types of data/information can be supported by M*Ware Exchange?

Service providers normally start collaboration in the customer care area. Ticket Exchange is a very logical first step. But Exchange services are ready to be the secure gateway for any type of service assurance OSS. To increase pro-active fault management, exchanging events and alarms in often the next step. This requires some exchange of inventory data as well.
Since customers expect the end-to-end service to meet the SLA, exchanging real time QoS data is rapidly becoming a big issue for service providers.
Exchanging change orders can improve the customer implementation time; overall work flow management saves time and money in maintenance.

Q. I am already using Vertel TMN products and I am interested in what M*Ware can do for me?

To move to M*Ware Convergent manager you can add protocol adapters for SNMP, CORBA, XML and TL.1, or add functionality by simply plugging in M*Ware services. Every step in the move is supported. Please contact your Sales Manager to begin a dialogue with a Vertel technical consult that can go into the details of your specific case.

Q. Who maintains the specific customized M*Ware logic, once a solution is implemented?

Vertel provides high quality training in the use of M*Ware. The customization of M*Ware can be performed and maintained by in-house development groups, system integrators or our professional services staff.

Q. I am interested in the potential of a partnership with Vertel. Whom should I contact?

Vertel believes in the power of partnerships to provide better and more complete solutions to our customers. If you are a system integrator, OSS vendor, or network equipment vendor, there are many possibilities for business synergy.
