Hills, Calif., January 26, 2000 Vertel® (NASDAQ: VRTL), a leading global provider of carrier-grade network management solutions, today announced that the company's Professional Services Unit was chosen by Littlefeet Inc., a provider of infrastructure solutions for mobile telecommunications operators, to develop a network management interface for Littlefeet's wireless products.
The project will be developed in three phases, with the first phase scheduled to be delivered at the end of February 2000 to support Littlefeet's customer trials. Vertel will complete the system to support full-scale deployment of Littlefeet's technology in June 2000.
"We are excited about this project in particular because it is the first time we will create a network management system for the wireless market," said Bruce Brown, president and chief executive officer of Vertel. "Our solution is an excellent platform for next generation wireless systems, like Littlefeet's."
"Vertel's technology complements Littlefeet's mission to provide flexible, scalable coverage and capacity for today's wireless networks," said Malcolm Wood, president and chief executive officer for Littlefeet Inc.
Vertel will be providing Littlefeet with an Operation, Maintenance & Control (OMC) system for its Small Profile Intelligent Coverage Elements (SPICE). Clustered SPICE elements work together to provide high-capacity, expandable coverage for wireless operators, replacing existing Base Transceiver Systems in conventional wireless networks.
Littlefeet's SPICE networks provide operators with small, tightly controlled, footprints that have homogeneous signal strength. The OMC SPICE developed by Vertel is integral to Littlefeet's success. Vertel will provide Littlefeet's Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Network Operations Center (NOC) interface. It will manage Littlefeet's configuration, alarm and performance management functions via the SPICE's internal wireless modem.
