FVC.COM Strengthens Offering to Service Providers Through Partnership With Vertel for Back Office Management Solutions

Vertel to Provide e*ORB(TM)-based Service Assurance Solution for The FVC.COM Click to Meet(TM) Product

Woodland Hills, Calif., March 7, 2000 – Vertel® (NASDAQ: VRTL), a leading provider of mediation software for telecommunications networks, and FVC.COM (NASDAQ:FVCX), the world leader in broadband video networking, today announced that Vertel has introduced a Service Assurance Applications Service Provider (ASP) solution which FVC.COM has chosen to provide back office integration for the Click to Meet offering.
The Vertel ASP solution, using the industry leading e*ORB software, can operate across a broad range of network technologies and management standards, allowing FVC.COM rapid scalability to support the growth of its IP-based Broadband Video Services to the service provider market.
The Vertel ASP will support a complete suite of service assurance components, including:

-- Fault handling processing - system and network monitoring to assure 24/7 uptime

-- Trouble ticket management - maps trouble tickets from multiple carriers into a universal format for routing and processing

-- Quality of Service management and reporting - aggregation of monitoring information to meet service level agreement (SLA) requirements

FVC.COM initially will use the Vertel solution to Web-enable the electronic exchange of trouble ticket reports between their Video Operations Center and their service provider partners, improving efficiency and removing the risk of human error.
"As FVC.COM scales its Broadband Video Services business, it is critical that we offer the robust, standards-based back office support that the carrier market demands," said Rich Beyer, president and chief executive officer of FVC.COM. "By teaming with the leading supplier of management solutions for broadband networks, we will be able to quickly integrate carriers' back office processes with our own. This will result in faster time to market for business quality two-way video services through our new service provider partners."
"This is just the first component of a complete suite of Service Assurance ASP solutions that Vertel is offering to the application service provider community," said Bruce Brown, president and chief executive officer of Vertel. "This new approach complements our existing market strategy, and we expect our industry-first e*ORB technology to continue to open many new markets to us."
