Hills, Calif., May 03, 2000 Vertel® (NASDAQ: VRTL), the leading provider of mediation software for telecommunications networks, announced today that it has joined Rational Software's Unified Partner Program.
Vertel, developer of the unique e-ORB mediation software, will provide integration with Rational Rose, Rational's market-leading visual modeling product, to simplify the development of CORBA-based carrier-grade telecommunications applications, reduce time to market and lower life-cycle maintenance costs. Among the first to benefit from the new partnership is Tellium, a leader in the Optical Switching market.
The integration of Vertel e-ORB software -- the first ORB (Object Request Broker) technology designed with the reliability (99.999 percent), very high-speed, small form factor and platform independence required by the telecommunications industry -- with the visual modeling tool Rational Rose, will benefit customers in markets that demand high-performance, carrier-grade, CORBA-based solutions. Rational Software maintains a market-leading position in the Unified Modeling Language (UML) analysis and design market.
"The combination of Vertel and Rational Rose will provide key benefits to world-class customers, looking to their partners to deliver time and cost savings," said Bruce Brown, president and chief executive officer, Vertel. "Vertel can provide developers of distributed carrier-class applications with fast, standards-based tools for the creation, analysis and architecting of tomorrow's telecommunications network."
The Rational Unified Partner Program extends Rational's e-development solution, including Rational Rose, with innovative solutions from independent software vendors (ISVs) and third-party developers. Rational Rose provides an open, extensible interface that enables partners and users to incorporate visual modeling into their products that helps allow users to quickly and easily change existing applications by automating the entire process from application design to deployment.
"We're pleased to welcome Vertel to the rapidly growing, exclusive Rational Unified Partner Program," said David Abelow, director of Partner Marketing for Rational Software. "Combining Vertel e-ORB software with Rational Rose can help customers rapidly develop next generation telecommunications applications which are easily modified for changing business requirements."
Rational Rose and e-ORB are in compliance with the CORBA IDL standard. Using e-ORB software enabled architectures the two companies deliver a clean process from analysis, design, code to deployment. e-ORB is available for Solaris, HP-UX, Windows NT, Linux and all major RTOS environments.
Note to Editors: Tellium and Vertel will jointly present the benefits of using Rational Rose and e-ORB software at the upcoming rational software users conference.
