Woodland
Hills, Calif., August 21, 2000 Vertel® (NASDAQ: VRTL),
a leading provider of mediation software for telecommunications networks, today announced the availability of e*ORB 2.0 -- an enhanced version of e*ORB core technology, Vertel's advanced CORBA implementation aimed at high-speed telecommunications, e-business and automotive manufacturing applications.
At the same time, Vertel announced that is has mobilized portions of its extended product engineering, sales and marketing staffs into marketing teams to aggressively target segments that can benefit from the faster, smaller e*ORB 2.0 product.
Vertel's e*ORB Version 2.0 builds on the high-performing, modular approach of the original e*ORB software platform, significantly extending its capabilities and power for use in embedded applications and real-time environments.
"Already the fastest, smallest footprint CORBA software product available, our new e*ORB product has been enhanced to offer even more power for performance-hungry embedded applications," said Cyrus D. Irani, president and CEO of Vertel.
"We see the embedded solutions market as one important extension of Vertel's existing commitment to the CORBA market and the growing base of companies and potential customers that have standardized on this international multivendor standard," Irani added.
Extended Features
Vertel made e*ORB smaller to better position it for wireless and Internet applications down to the hand-held device level. Key features such as lightweight asynchronous messaging, portable interceptors and simultaneous support for multiple network protocols are expected to help broaden the appeal of the e*ORB line across multiple market segments.
In addition, Vertel's enhancements focused on making e*ORB 2.0 even easier to use by adding new tracing, debugging and monitoring features as well as sample code for telecommunications applications -- all improvements that boost developer productivity.
"e*ORB 2.0 cuts our already tiny software footprint by another 50 percent while adding turnkey functionality that will help speed our customers' time to market," said Patrick Tao, Vertel's vice president of product marketing. "We've made e*ORB 2.0 even faster and worked with our e*ORB 1.0 customers to add features that help them build rich, multi-threaded, real-time applications."
Marketing Focus
In creating new marketing teams, Vertel plans to aggressively target market segments that can benefit from the faster, smaller version of e*ORB.
These segments and potential customers include: (1) wireless and fiber optic equipment manufacturers and operators of such networks; (2) networked applications outside of the traditional telecom space such as finance, e-commerce and telematics; (3) Independent Software Vendors and Network Application Providers requiring connectivity of their programs into telecommunications network management systems; and (4) integration of management and operations systems and applications into new and existing telecommunications network infrastructures.
"With this new version of e*ORB and the strategic focus of the marketing teams, Vertel is taking CORBA beyond its traditional strongholds and into some of the most exciting hi-tech sectors," said Richard Soley, chief executive officer of the Object Management Group (OMG), a standards-making body for interoperable enterprise applications.
Vertel anticipates shipments of e*ORB 2.0 will begin by the end of the current quarter. To facilitate evaluations, the software will also be available for download from the Vertel Web site, www.vertel.com.
