Vertel Appoints Robert Flood to Board of Directors

Woodland Hills, Calif., December 12, 2000 – Vertel® (NASDAQ: VRTL), a leading provider of middleware for the telecommunications market, today announced the appointment of Robert T. Flood to the Vertel board of directors.
Flood, 52, has more than 25 years of experience in international communications. Flood is presently a private consultant. He previously served as chief technology officer for Cable and Wireless - Global from April 1999 until August 2000. 
Before joining Cable and Wireless, Flood acted as vice president, engineering and chief technology officer for six years at ICG Communications. He was also involved in a variety of leadership positions with Centel Telephone Co. from 1974 until he joined ICG in 1993.

Flood holds a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and a master's degree in economics from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. He also attended the Kellogg Executive Development Program at the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University in Chicago.
