Vertel Turns Over Management of its Global TMN Summit to the International Engineering Consortium

World’s premier TMN user forum to be managed by a professional, non-profit continuing education organization

Woodland Hills, CA,  February 25, 1999 –  Vertel®  (NASDAQ:VRTL), a leading supplier of telecommunications network software, today announced that it will turn over the ownership and responsibility for the Global TMN Summit to the International Engineering Consortium (IEC), a leading provider of conferences, forums and symposia for the communications industry.  Vertel will conclude its role as manager of the Summit at the closing of this year’s conference on Friday, February 26, 1999.  IEC will take on the program development, event marketing and management of the annual Global TMN Summit for the year 2000 and beyond.  Vertel will continue to be the primary sponsor for the Summit and will play a key role in developing themes and topics for future conferences.

Vertel’s decision to transfer ownership of the Summit to a professional management organization reflects the evolution of the annual event into an internationally recognized industry forum.  Today, the Global TMN Summit is the premier venue for the exchange of issues, trends and technology solutions focused on Telecommunications Management Networks (TMN), the worldwide standard architecture for managing telecommunications networks.  “We’re proud our efforts have made the Summit the leading conference on TMN technology,” said Bruce Brown, president and CEO of Vertel.  “What began as a platform for building awareness for TMN has become so powerful that it deserves the management and marketing expertise of a dedicated professional education organization such as IEC.”

“Vertel has done an outstanding job in developing the Global TMN Summit into a leading telecom forum,” said Robert M. Janowiak, executive director of IEC.  “The focus of the Summit fits perfectly with our existing curricula and with our audiences in the communications industry.  We are committed to using our organizational resources and event management experience to build on Vertel’s success.”
