Woodland Hills, CA. and Murray Hill, N.J., July 7, 1999 – Vertel® Corporation (NASDAQ:VRTL), a leading global provider of multi-management solutions for telecommunications networks, and Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced a strategic alliance to create new multivendor network integration software for Lucent’s operations support systems (OSS) applications. The strategic agreement includes an initial contract for Vertel to develop network management protocol conversion and mediation software. Based on the companies' projections, the agreement has the potential to grow to $20 million over three years.
“Lucent and Vertel’s combined expertise strengthens our ability for delivering multivendor, multiprotocol management solutions to our customers,” said Deepak Kanwar, director, Lucent Communications Software Group. “Vertel’s experience with CORBA, Q3, SNMP, and proprietary management interfaces will enhance Lucent's management and operations software support for today's diverse networks."
“This alliance bolsters our strategy for adding value to our network equipment manufacturer customers and our third-party applications suppliers,” said Bruce Brown, president and chief executive officer of Vertel. “By providing network protocol conversion and mediation software, Vertel can help Lucent continue to focus its resources on delivering leading operations support systems applications.”
Vertel’s mediation solutions framework is built on Telecore2, the next generation of Vertel’s TMNTelecore product, one of the industry’s most widely deployed TMN standards-based management platforms. The framework provides standards-based and proprietary interfaces to multi-vendor OSSs and network equipment, integrates a carrier-grade CORBA distribution platform, and is designed to maximize reusability and expedite deployment. The framework also leverages key Vertel technologies, such as the OpenStore persistence storage module and world-class simulation tools.
Lucent Technologies' portfolio of Service Ready™ TM Network Fault Management (NFM) software offers comprehensive surveillance and control capabilities at the network and element management layers — a fast and effective means to help detect, diagnose, isolate and resolve multivendor network problems. The NFM system is modular and scalable, and designed to support existing and emerging industry standards such as TMN.
Lucent anticipates deploying the first set of solutions developed with Vertel by the end of 1999.
