Vertel Chosen by two Leading
Telecommunications Equipment Manufacturers for Mediation Solutions
Mediation Solutions Framework Introduced
at TeleManagement World in Hamburg, Germany
Hamburg, Germany, April 13, 1999 – Vertel® (NASDAQ:VRTL),
a leading supplier of telecommunications network management software, today
announced contracts with two major suppliers of wireless telecommunications
equipment for mediation solutions based on Vertel’s next generation TMNTelecore
platform technology. The contracts, totaling $1.4 million over the first
half of the fiscal year, are for a solutions package that combines Vertel’s
professional services and industry leading telecommunications management
software.
The mediation solutions will enable the telecommunications equipment
manufacturers to integrate operations support systems (OSSs) with multi-vendor
networks deployed by major wireless service providers in Germany and China.
By leveraging Vertel’s mediation solutions framework, Vertel’s customers
will shorten their time to market by 50% and reduce their overall cost
of ownership by two thirds. The mediation solution is comprised of reusable
plug-and-play components for multiple management technology interfaces,
a high-speed distribution mechanism, and a rapid application development
environment.
Mediation solutions address a critical need for telecom network operators
to quickly and cost effectively integrate network elements (NEs) with network
management systems and other OSSs. To remain competitive, today’s carrier
must increase their end-to-end automation across a broad range of vendor
equipment and systems, while their network is continually growing in scale
and complexity.
“As the number of management interfaces between equipment and systems
multiplies, the cost of customizing software for each interface becomes
cost-prohibitive,” explained Cyrus Irani, vice president of professional
services at Vertel. “Our mediation solutions framework eliminates the bulk
of non-repeatable custom software needed to meet each new customer’s requirements,
adding greater profitability over the life of our customer’s products and
allowing network operators to deploy new network technologies and services
faster.”
“Our ability to deliver cost effective products that integrate new standards,
technologies and services quickly differentiates us from our competitors
and allows us to win deals,” said Bruce Brown, president and CEO of Vertel.
“Just last week a $1 billion contract was signed for network equipment
by one of the nation’s largest wireless service operators, and the primary
reason cited for choosing one equipment manufacturer over another was the
winner’s ability to deliver faster. A secondary reason was the advanced
state of the technology, which would provide the foundation for a network
satisfying international standards and offering more services.”
“Vertel’s mediation solutions address all the key factors for helping
a system integrator or equipment manufacturer win these kind of deals:
faster delivery time, and cost effective integration of new standards,
technologies and services.”
Mediation Solutions Framework
Introduced at TeleManagement World
Vertel’s mediation solutions operate using a modular component-based architecture,
built on Vertel’s TMNTelecore platform technology, extended into a generic
mediation framework. The framework is designed to maximize reusability
and expedite deployment. OSS interfaces - both those that manage (Southbound)
and those that are being managed (Northbound) - are all mediated into a
lightweight normalized form that is easily distributed around the mediation
framework core. This strategy allows work invested in integrating an OSS
or NE to be reusable. The solution may be extended to new OSS or NE components
with only incremental work, rather than developing multiple interfaces,
which is complex and costly. The core of the framework is a rule-driven
engine, optimized for performance, which avoids the problems with academically
complete but very heavy mappings.
Vertel’s mediation solution features a graphical user interface that
allows easy and flexible configuration of the rules. In addition to enhancing
ease-of-use, the interface also provides the ability to accommodate the
most complex behaviors and adapt to new requirements rapidly. Vertel will
demonstrate the mediation solutions framework at the TeleManagement World
event being hosted this week in Hamburg, Germany.
Mediation Solutions Framework
Core is Industry Leading TMNTelecore
The mediation solutions framework is built on TMNTelecore2, the next generation
of Vertel’s TMNTelecore
product, the industry’s most widely deployed TMN standards-based
management platform. TMNTelecore2 expands Vertel’s proven technology to
encompass management interfaces not only for CMIP, but TL1, SNMP, CORBA
IDL, and proprietary interfaces. TMNTelecore2 will be offered as modular
components distributed across the TMNTelecore Bus mechanism, allowing highly
dynamic and scalable combinations of the components required for a specific
implementation.
Vertel’s partnership with Microsoft insures the integration of these
components with DCOM and Windows 2000 distributed architecture. Vertel’s
recent acquisition of Expersoft solidifies its ability to provide carrier-grade
CORBA-based distribution in its products and solutions offerings, enabling
the scalable and high performance solutions required by network operators
and service providers.
Vertel is a leading provider of telecom network management software and
solutions that support multiple management technologies. These solutions
provide public and IP network operations support systems (OSS) infrastructures
the key components required for end-to-end network and service management
with carrier-grade quality of service. Vertel delivers telecom management
solutions worldwide to service providers, network operators, telecom equipment
manufacturers, independent software vendors and systems integrators. Vertel
also delivers turnkey management applications that fit individual customer
requirements through their Professional Services Organization. The Company
is based in Woodland Hills, California and has sales offices throughout
the world.
