Vertel Tabs Telecommunications Veteran Jack Reily to Join Board of Directors

Woodland Hills, CA., July 15, 1999 – With an eye towards increasing activity in the area of  mergers and acquisitions (M&A), Vertel® (NASDAQ:VRTL) today announced the addition of Jack Reily to its board of directors. Mr. Reily has spent the past twenty years in the telecommunications industry. Currently working as an independent M&A advisor to the telecommunications industry, he was previously an executive director at Broadview International; a leading global investment bank focused on the IT, communications and media industries worldwide. Prior to that, he served as vice president of Business Development at ADC Telecommunications, a leading global supplier of voice, video and data systems and solutions for telephone, cable television, Internet, broadcast, wireless and private communications networks. In both of these positions, Reily focused most of his activities on M&A and strategic planning.

“With increasing partnering and consolidation in the telecommunications market, it's vital to our success to have individuals assisting our company who have a solid understanding of the M&A market,” said Bruce Brown, president and chief executive officer. “A key component of Vertel’s growth strategy will take place through M&A in new broadband Internet technologies and services and having Jack helping to chart our future is a welcome addition. He will be actively working to identify acquisition opportunities and to help close and integrate them into Vertel.”

“As carriers, service providers and equipment manufacturers continue to expand and diversify their offerings, it is critical that the network be supported by superior management software,” said Jack Reily. “Vertel’s technology allows our customers to focus on their core competencies without having to spend time and resources developing management solutions. I look forward to working with the rest of the board members to find the best companies to partner and ally with to fully realize this objective.”

Currently, Reily continues to serve as a consultant to Broadview International. Prior to this, he was an Executive Director for the firm and focused his attention on M&A for telecommunications equipment manufacturers. Highlighting his tenure with Broadview has been the successful acquisitions between Tadiran/ECI and California Microwave, Digital Microwave and MAS, and Digital Switch Corporation and Celcore. Prior to working at Broadview, Reily had several roles at ADC Telecommunications.  These roles included responsibility for the acquisition of over a dozen companies, division president/general manager for various groups, and most recently, vice president of Business Development.

Reily earned his master's and bachelor's degrees at the University of Texas and completed the Executive Program at the University of Michigan. He serves on the Board for Dantel Corporation, and is the former chairman of the Electrical Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Minnesota.
